Pilgrim economy

This is the (once) grand sweep of 3-story mansions in one of which is located my B&B for the night. My host tells me that once these were nearly all B&Bs but now there are only two left “it’s a dying trade” he says… (His parents owned a B&B at Mumbles charging £100 a night. Here the economy will only stand £20. “You make your money in the summer and pray it lasts you through the winter” he tells me whistfully – what was once his boyhood dream is now a looming financial nightmare.)

When pilgrimages died so did entire local economies…

I’m doing my bit to help!
